New Moon In Sagittarius 2022

We are having a New Moon in Sagittarius which will occur on November 23rd in the Americas, Western Europe, and Western Africa. It will be in the morning hours of the 24th elsewhere. This is initiating a 29.5 day lunar cycle bringing in a new wave of energies and themes for the coming month on top of some of the longer term influences. However, the astrological configurations mentioned in this article will be more prominent over the following two weeks. This cycle will culminate with a Full Moon in Gemini on December 7th/8th.

Sagittarius season began a day and a half prior to the New Moon with this Lunation activating its energies even more so. This is the sign of beliefs, morals, higher perspectives, philosophies, spiritual seeking,  religion, wisdom, and the ‘big picture’. Sagittarius is associated with higher education, travel, foreign countries, international matters, exploration, and adventure. It can be optimistic, jovial, idealistic, and enthusiastic. It also correlates with things like teaching, media, publishing, marketing, and sales.

Sagittarius energy is also freedom seeking, risk taking, and likes to go beyond what others would perceive or impose as limitations. Negatively, it can be excessive, egotistical, arrogant, argumentative, fanatical, preachy, unrealistic, careless, scattered, disregarding of consequences, and have a ‘know-it-all’ complex. It can be blunt, outspoken, opinionated, and judgmental. As a broadminded sign, it can easily overlook details and facts.

Jupiter Stationary Direct In Pisces With Neptune Also Approaching Change In Motion

Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, has been slowing down in the weeks leading up to this lunation as it changes from retrograde to direct. Interestingly, it literally stops and slowly begins to change motion about five minutes after the exact moment of the New Moon which is an extremely rare occurrence. Whenever a planet is stationary like this, its energies and themes can be very strong.

Jupiter rules many of the things mentioned in the above section pertaining to Sagittarius which I won’t repeat, and it can amplify those themes even more so. It can also be expansive, lucky, abundant, hopeful, yet can also be over-extending and inflationary. It is in its other home sign of Pisces and interestingly Neptune will also be going stationary direct there 10 days later, on December 3rd/4th. Neptune shares the same energies and themes as Pisces and we can expect that throughout the 2-3 weeks following this New Moon, these energies will be strong. There can be some sort of development pertaining to the themes and qualities of both this sign and planet.

Neptune and Pisces are associated with spirituality, mysticism, faith, oneness, creativity, imagination, psychedelics, empathy, and forgiveness. They are also connected to visual art, music, and poetry. Negatively, this can also manifest as excessive escapism, intoxication, and idealism. On a geopolitical level, we may also see another change affecting the oil and gas industry.

Jupiter has been retrograde since late July and Neptune since late June. It’s possible that some of the developments that occur over the coming weeks can play out as some sort of conclusion or next step to things that were prominent at that time and/or have been playing out since then. .

As Neptune goes stationary it will be in a square with Mercury on December 1st/2nd, and then in a square with Venus on December 3rd/4th. This can perpetuate negative Neptune themes such as confusion, delusion, or deception around perception, communications, love, relationships, or financial matters during this period.

New Moon Conjunct Venus & Mercury, All Applying Trine To Chiron

This New Moon is in a wide conjunction with Venus and Mercury which are also in Sagittarius. These two planets have been really close to each other in the week leading up to this New Moon and in the week following. This is a great energy for having visits with friends and pleasant social interactions. We may also find ourselves thinking or communicating about things pertaining to art, aesthetics, pleasures, values, or money more so than usual.

Both of these planets, along with the Sun and Moon, are moving towards a trine with Chiron. It will be exact for Mercury and Venus in the 2-3 days following the New Moon. Our thoughts, communications, relationship scenarios, or financial matters may be focused or oriented around themes pertaining to vulnerability, dilemmas, pain, wounds, traumas, healing, and/or seeking solutions.

Considering that Mercury is challenged in Sagittarius and is the ruler of Gemini, where Mars retrograde is currently occurring, this may be a good time to address faulty aspects of our mindset. This is a good time to try to look at things in a holistic way such as considering different aspects of a situation and seeing how they are connected. Similar themes may even come up again around December 3rd/4th when the Sun perfects its trine.

Mars Retrograde Aspecting Saturn, Mercury, & Venus

Mars Retrograde in Gemini is in a trine with Saturn which will be exact from November 27th-29th.  Our efforts and motivations can be oriented around long term goals, responsibilities, or commitments. This can help us to be more cautious and realistic in comparison to the previous weeks. Considering it is retrograde, generally this energy can be more fruitful if we are revisiting efforts or intentions that were already initiated or conceived prior. Yet, whatever we are doing during this period can help shape how we need to proceed after the retrograde concludes in the coming months.

From November 29th until December 1st/2nd, Mars then opposes Mercury and Venus. This can play out as conflicts, arguments, anger, or aggression in our relationships, social interactions, or in our commutes. Whatever comes up now may somehow play a role in the changes we need to make in how we apply ourselves.

Making Intentions & Things To Consider

Are there any areas of your life calling for some sort of expansion? Do you feel the need to learn anything new or pursue getting educated in something that could ultimately help you in your goals or efforts? Do you have perspectives that you feel like you need to share with others? Are there aspects of your relationships that need healing or resolving?  Are any negative circumstances in your life a result of a flawed mindset, and if so, what needs to be changed?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time; however, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon, but in this case it would be good to wait until at least six minutes afterwards as Jupiter goes stationary direct. The exact moment of the New Moon will be occurring at 10:58pm Universal Time on November 23rd. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.
