Lunar Eclipse In Pisces: Navigating Emotional Depths

We are having a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on September 17th/18th, 2024, peaking at 2:44 AM Universal Time on the 18th. In the Americas, this eclipse will be visible late on the night of September 17th, while much of Europe, Africa, and parts of Western Asia will see it in the morning of the 18th.

This is a Partial Eclipse, which will begin its first phase about two hours before the peak and conclude roughly two hours afterward. It will be visible around 30 minutes before and after the peak, where the Earth’s shadow will partially cover the Moon. The eclipse will be visible wherever the skies are dark and clear during this window.

This is the first of two eclipses occurring back-to-back, with the next one being a Solar Eclipse in Libra on October 2/3. This is also the first of a new series of eclipses occurring in the Pisces-Virgo axis, which will continue until February 2027, while overlapping with eclipses occurring in other polarities. Eclipses reflect shifts connected to the sign they are in, planets configured to them, and how they overlay with one’s natal birth chart. This plays out over the following six months and can begin up to six weeks prior.

North Node Lunar Eclipse In Pisces Conjunct Neptune With Saturn Co-Present

This Full Moon is a North Node eclipse, which is about evolutionary changes pertaining to qualities of Pisces, and even about incorporating the positive aspects of this sign. However, the North Node is still in Aries until January, and we will have one more eclipse in March in this sign. Therefore, we are experiencing overlapping evolutionary growth around both of these signs over the next year.

With the eclipsed Moon in late Pisces, the eclipse is also closely aligned with Neptune, the planetary counterpart of Pisces. The energies of both this sign and planet point toward shifts and developments around spirituality, compassion, empathy, creativity, imagination, altruism, emotional depth, oneness, and divinity. Considering that this is a Full Moon eclipse, this period over the coming months offers a push to release negative expressions of Pisces/Neptune to make way for positive expressions of this sign over the coming years. This could look like overcoming escapism, victim mentality, delusion, lack of boundaries, deception, laziness, and lack of motivation. This Piscean growth over the coming years can encourage us to embrace a more fluid approach to life, heighten our sensitivity, connect with deep emotions, heal, and/or gain spiritual clarity.

Saturn is also co-present in Pisces, adding a stabilizing and redefining force to this otherwise nebulous energy. Saturn can help us create structure around our spiritual and emotional insights, transforming them into practical actions or commitments that lead to long-term growth. Together, Neptune and Saturn in Pisces offer a powerful opportunity to merge the spiritual with the material, grounding our dreams in reality while releasing expressions of this sign that no longer serve us.

The Aries North Node near this Full Moon brings a unique dynamic to this eclipse. We may feel called to integrate the bold, independent, courageous, and pioneering qualities of Aries with the compassionate, spiritual, creative, and introspective nature of Pisces. This overlap presents a supportive energetic landscape to take decisive action in areas where we’ve been passive or uncertain, using Aries’ drive to overcome the inertia or escapism associated with Pisces. Over the next year, we can work to blend these energies to help us move forward and grow.

Lunar Eclipse Sextile Uranus & Pluto, Square Jupiter

This Lunar Eclipse forms a sextile to both Uranus and Pluto, also placing it close enough to the midpoint between these two transformative planets. The sextile to Uranus supports this eclipse with energy that can be liberating, awakening, innovative, unconventional, involving technology, or supportive of breakthroughs. Meanwhile, the sextile to Pluto adds potentials that can be transformative, empowering, revealing, cleansing, or psychologically beneficial. Together, the eclipse with Uranus and Pluto in the mix forms a combination that can be highly evolutionary.

The eclipse is also in a square to the ruler of Pisces, Jupiter in Gemini. This can bring challenges pertaining to beliefs, morals, or expansion. The square, combined with the Moon and Jupiter in mutable signs, suggests that we can easily overextend ourselves or get scattered. We may need to avoid taking on more than we can handle. Ultimately, over the coming months, these combined energies offer great potential for growth and development.

Mars In Cancer Square Lunar Nodes & Going Retrograde In The Coming Months

Mars, the ruler of the Aries North Node, is in Cancer in a challenging square with the lunar nodes, bringing an important dynamic to this eclipse. Mars typically embodies forward and directed action; however, in Cancer, it operates from a more emotionally-driven place, often prioritizing protection and security over bold action. The square to the nodes suggests that now and over the coming months, we are at a crossroads in how we need to be asserting ourselves.

Along with this square, Mars will also be going retrograde from early December until late February, primarily in Cancer and partially in Leo. This retrograde accentuates the themes of this square to the nodes and reflects a process of recalibration in how we take action. The combination of these two factors could also affect how we deal with anger, conflict, competition, masculine energy, physical activity, or even sexual matters. There can be a push-pull or tension between applying ourselves from our comfort zones, old approaches, or past behaviors, versus embracing growth, new approaches, and moving forward.

T-Square With Mercury, Saturn, & Jupiter

Mercury, the ruler of the Sun in Virgo opposing the Moon, is also in Virgo in opposition with Saturn in Pisces. Both are in a square with Jupiter in Gemini, the ruler of the Pisces eclipse, forming a T-square. Mercury in Virgo is sharp, precise, and detail-oriented, but its opposition with Saturn in Pisces brings a somber tone and potential for obstacles, limitations, or delays, especially when it comes to expressing ideas, communication, or mental activity.

With Jupiter in Gemini at the apex of this T-square, the tension between Mercury and Saturn finds its release through Jupiter’s emphasis on learning and exploring different perspectives. However, in Gemini, Jupiter can be scattered or overly focused on accumulating information without deeper integration. The challenge lies in navigating conflicting ideas and beliefs, while this configuration encourages us to seek wisdom in contradictions, pushing for mental growth and flexibility.

Things To Consider

Is there anything that you need to let go of to invite emotional or spiritual clarity? How can you nurture or release aspects of your creativity? Are you allowing space for divine inspiration in your life? Where might illusions or fantasies be keeping you stuck? How can you cultivate more compassion and empathy, especially in challenging situations? Are there areas where escapism is holding you back from growth or fulfillment? Should you be incorporating more spiritual practices into your daily routine? Should you reinvent a stagnant aspect of your life? How can you merge new approaches with deeper truths to create meaningful change? How can you better manage conflict or tension in your personal relationships? Are you avoiding a confrontation that needs to be addressed for your growth? What steps can you take to realign your actions and support your forward progress? Are you holding onto outdated methods of asserting yourself? Are you playing it safe at the expense of missing opportunities for growth? What actions will ensure you’re progressing toward your higher goals, rather than repeating old patterns?

These are just some examples of themes that could arise during this period, though they may manifest in other ways as well. If you feel called to release anything that has surfaced, it’s best to do so during the waning phase of the lunar cycle after the Full Moon’s peak, which is already in effect as this article is published. Keep in mind that the energies of this eclipse will unfold over the next six months, and the themes mentioned may become more prominent later on.
